Hack Your Patterns! / Create New Designs from an Existing Garment
Coming back soon PLEASE NOTE : This course isn't conceived to teach you to make a full body adjustment of your patterns. "Ajustement de patrons" (in French only) or private lessons are better suited for learning about full body adjustments :) |
Level : I have already made several garments using commercial patterns. I know how to sew details (darts, pleats, gathers) and finishes (hems, bias tape)... but I don't always like the available pattern designs.
Objectives : Create style variations from an existing garment. Copy a Garment. Make clothes to your taste!
Duration : 5 lessons / 3 hours per lesson / 1 lesson per week / total of 15 hours
Materials : You will have access to drafting paper, our tutorial, the documents useful for the class, the tools, one of our sewing machine and fabric for your muslin.
Price : $295 taxes included
Minimum 2 students / Maximum 4 students
This course is an introduction to the techniques that will allow you to add style elements to existing sewing patterns. This course is for those who wish to be able to develop variations on a basic pattern (such as a skirt, knit tunic, skirt or pants) through flat cutting techniques. The content of this course is a condensed and simplified version of the teachings given in Fashion Design programs, but tailored to the needs of our students who seek to explore the wonderful world of design for themselves, for the fun of it. Please note that if you are looking for a professional training or a diploma, this is not our mandate.
Course 1: Introduction to tools and exploration of different techniques on miniatures (organizing a plan, pivoting darts, creating a seam line).
Course 2: Exploration of different techniques on miniatures (princess seams, creating volume with godets, radial openings, creating pleats and gathers). Style research and selection of the model to be transformed in the last class (chosen from one of our basic patterns).
Course 3: Copy of a piece of an existing garment, checking pattern pieces accuracy.
Course 4: Cutting and sewing a mock-up muslin. Fitting.
Course 5: Pattern correction and style development.
*** See below for more details and pictures :) ***

Here are the main flat cutting techniques you will be learning during the course
(and some examples of the possibilities they offer you) Our pedagogical approach in this course will focus on understanding the basic techniques of flat cutting. We show you images to explain the possibilities, but will not be able to make the development plan for the 55 styles shown above for lack of time. By learning the techniques, you can easily repeat it on different garments once made at home thanks to your class notes :)

Pattern Drafting / Open Projects
Sunday, from 9:30am to 12:30pm, from April 6th to May 4th with Sonia Level : I have already made several garments using commercial patterns. I am comfortable with pattern vocabulary and tools. I have graduated from the Hack Your Patterns! class, several sessions of Making My Projects, or equivalent courses elsewhere. I want to deepen my knowledge of pattern transformation to develop designs with more complex details. I am able to sew my assignments at home. Objectives : Developing a personal pattern project. Duration : 5 lessons / 3 hours per lesson / 1 lesson per week / total of 15 hours Materials : You will have access to drafting paper, our tutorial, the documents useful for the class, the tools, one of our sewing machine and upcycled fabric for your muslin. Yellow canvas can be purchased on-site. Price : $295 taxes included Minimum 2 students / Maximum 4 students |
This pattern drafting course will allow you to develop your own pattern designs under the supervision of a teacher. The projects are up to you! This course is for those who already have experience with patterns and wish to learn more advanced techniques (collars, sleeves...) and refine their skills to create more complex designs (blouse, coat, jacket...). The goal of the class is to finalize a pattern and validate a muslin, not to sew a beautiful final garment.
IMPORTANT : Please note that this class is not designed to teach you how to master the secrets of adjusting a pattern to your measurements and body shape OR to create a bodice block from your measurements. The classes "Ajustement de patrons" (in French only) or private lessons are better suited for learning about full body adjustments :) If you're not sure which class would suit your project better, feel free to ask us.
